It was yellow, NOT red...

There was a pic shot on orthochromatic film which made the yellow appear dark, and someone back in the 60s took that as a red nose, hence the profile. Nevah happen, GI. Plus, you should never trust most artistic profiles any further than you can throw them. Some folks are extremely meticulous, such as Claes Sundin or Troy White (in the art world), but others just put out any old thing and call it "accurate".
And I do believe Assi passed away sometime back, but I haven't any firm information on that one way or the other, sorry.
