Frozen lakes and tanks

Good question, well I know for a fact that many tanks or heavy vechicals in WW2 moved about on frozen lakes, many feel through or were helped by being bombed whilst they were still on these lakes.
Lots were lost in swampy areas as well, became trapped and before they could be salvaged sank into the muck, due to the fast pace at the latter stages of the war, they simply wrote them off.
As Tony as mentioned as well, when the Germans were on the run, they simply pushed items into lakes and what not to stop them being captured and used against them.
