It never ceases to amaze me, the ignorance, and disrespect our veteran's are subjected to. How can we so loudly and ceremoniously honor today's heroes, and yet forget the ones who gave us all our freedom so many years ago!
As a military wife, daughter, and niece, I know first hand the contributions our servicemen make on a regular basis.
I thought at first, September 11, would make us all, as a nation, more aware of the sacrifices so many of our servicemen made. I also hoped that it would serve to make all of us appreciate our heroes more.
Sadly, it became apparent, very quickly, that once again, the armed services took a back seat, by the snubbing the victims, and their families, at the Pentagon took. Granted, there more victims at the World Trade Center, but does that make the pain any less, for the victims families, at the Pentagon? In a way, perhaps they were the lucky ones, because they were left to their grieving in peace, without the media hounding them for interviews.
I have had the honor of knowing a lot of WWII, and Korean veterans. They are the bravest, most dignified, classy, group of men I have ever known. They will not tell you they are heroes, and they get embarressed when you insist that they are. I keep hearing them repeat that the heroes are the ones that did'nt come home. Although, I certainly agree the men who died are heroes, I also believe that the men who came home, and lived in this world after seeing and experiencing what these men did, are truly heroes for all time.
I honestly wonder if these men will ever be treated with the respect they deserve! It is encouraging to read the posts on boards like this, and know there are a lot of us who do realize what these men have done done for their countries.
This is just my opinion, for what it's worth.
