Hmmm...here's a plane that was historically known for having a weak back. Some were lost during routine operations due to this weakness in the airframe.
Fast forward to the mid-1990's where the singular surviving example of this same aircraft has been resting at the bottom of a lake for 50 years being inundated with silt and sludge. Call me crazy, but simple logic would dictate that I shouldn't try to raise the element-ravaged fuselage ALL THE WAY OUT of the water using only a single lifting point right at the weak crux of the fuselage!
Seems "natural selection" didn't weed out certain aspects of this recovery as efficiently as it should've ;)
