I've thought about this one before too. It makes me laugh when he's picked up off the 'floating' spit wing, believe me , a spit wing would not float unless it had special flotation bags, and it wouldn't stay afloat for long with that either. If he was supposed to be burnt his face was remarkably well preserved after the crash and after hitting the sea that hard in a spit his straps must've been damn tight otherwise his perfect face would've had a slight 'dent' from hitting the gunsight. By the sounds of it the spit was a pig to ditch after reading about the exploits of the pilots who tried to do it or saw their friends killed whilst trying to it seems rather like the luck of the draw, but usually the radiators would flip the aircraft on it's back, so making it near impossible to get out. I think the funniest part of the film had to be where a Dyslexic Rafe suddenly got rather literate all of a sudden and was writing long letters, hmmmmm.

(I just love the way us Brits are always portrayed as 'stiff upper lip' upper class types in US produced war films, I don't think this will ever change...)
