The case of the Biesbosch Defiant should be seen as an isolated incident which was caused by one private individual. The matter is still under investigation and we are confident that it will be solved with satisfactory results. There is no place for Tabloid press (just in case anyone was considering this)
For years several recovery organisations in the Netherlands who are united in the NFLA (Dutch Federation for Aviation Archaelogy) have been trying to persuade the Dutch Government to take an active policy towards finding the remains of aircrew who are still listed as missing. These negotiations are very slow and hampered by the reluctance by the Dutch authorities to reserve funds and manpower. Despite this we will continue because we feel that the Dutch have a moral obligation towards these brave men who fought over our territory to liberate Europe.
The NFLA is a serious organisation who has set itself a goal to make sure that these missing airmen are found and recovered so that the next of kin of the missing persons involved are no longer in doubt to what happened to their loved ones. This is a very sensitive matter as you will understand and will be handled accordingly. Every action taken by members of the NFLA has to be very careful and with respect. The case of the Biesbosch Defiant is totally unacceptable, and has nothing to do with any of the NFLA-members.
The problem is that the Dutch autorities tend to accuse organisations like NFLA the same als socalled historical researchers who recover aircraft only for their personal pleasure or to sell the recovered items at inflated prices to collectors.
This is just to remind you that there are very serious organisations who are doing their best in trying to solve these mysteries, to investigate the events which took place more than 55 years ago, and to pay our respects to these brave people.
