Well I do know that anything is capable of dropping a bomb on something, even a humble spam-can, so I would say that they are never considered beyond possible use technically.........but of course we all really know that the vast majority of grounded military hardware is rotting into the ground, so if the Russians think they are still capable then they are even more paranoid than we usually give them credit for.
It is also the case that when warbirds are flown from GB to displays on the European continent, they have to fill out a truck-load of paperwork, and I think part of that is to do with all these silly treaties that have been signed over recent years.
It is suuposedly to make sure that the likes of TFC or OFMC don't keep right on going to Africa and flog their warbirds to some despot or other.
And it is also the case that the pilots of US based warbirds are not allowed to have access to the bomb/tank release handle in the cockpit, and GB based warbirds have to have external tanks bolted on, and then only the specific type of tank that the aircraft was allowed to carry in service. No external weapons are allowed to be carried in GB either.
All the above is what I have read over the years in various publications, so don't blame me if it's wrong !!!!!!!
Talking of capable weapons.....old Gerry Yagen better keep his V1 well hidden from potential mad-men..........LOL !
Just my two Euros....If I had any.
