Whitleys abroad....

The furthest a Whitley ever went abroad to my knowledge is Australia. This was in service with BOAC and flew to Oz to assess its suitablity for similar long haul flights. BOAC had about 16 Whitleys in its service and they made regular trips to Gibralter - in fact one ended up in the drink - apparently due to damage to one of the elevators before take off. Nothing to do with Halifax's i'm afraid but i can't resist the oportunity to fly the Whitley flag..!
