Report of Three P-40s, Found
The People's Daily reports that three P-40s have lately een found, within 20 miles of each other, near the China-
Myanmar (Burma) border.
It says the discovery, in Yunnan Province, covered six substantial pieces of wreckage; and that the secretary of the Communist Party in the township led a search party to one reputed wreck site. The other sites are said to be nearby, in Myanmar.
There is evidence of a postcrash fire, the paper says.
We must be happy to receive the news, but take the Red Chinese report with a grain or two of salt: the report says, "It has been determined that the three planes were members of the Flying Tigers, which made great contributions to the Chinese War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression." Then it says, "Elderly people in Lushan Village recall seeing a plane crash in 1943." If you put the two together, these airplanes can't be Flying Tigers -- the group was disbanded over a year earlier.
