DC3 Needs A Good Home Update

Posted by Chris on Sun Jan 06, 2002 05:00:08 AM

With reference to the posts earlier this week, as promised I have been up to Parham this morning to take a look at the DC3. Progress has been made on the hanger for it with the concrete supports for the frame having been laid. There are engines there and inside the fuselage what looks to be restored elevators, so I guess progress is still being made. The museum at Parham from what I remember makes no charge for admission so I guess funds for this restoration are limited. My feeling is that the aircraft is being brought back from dereliction rather than heading that way.

I have done some asking around and it would appear that she was last used for film work and was then simply 'parked' at Ipswich by the late Mr Hawke's company, a similar fate which occured to a number of other aircraft in the UK. She was then impounded by the owners of Ipswich airport, and the rest as they say is history.
