Exactly right Paul !

I'm not exactly a fan though, I can't stand bloody football.
They're making a lovely quick job of building the new stadium down the road though, should have got those people to build the new Wembley Stadium !

Interesting about the spot where they have chosen to build the stadium.
The land was owned by Powergen and was once the major electricity and gas works for the city.
During Nov 1940 a lone German bomber, Dornier 17 I think, unloaded a stick of bombs starting right where the new stadium now is.....it just missed the old football ground.

I have seen a map of where every one of the bombs fell and at least two fell on that piece of land, one of which didn't explode as far as I recall.
Another two at least fell in the canalised River Soar which runs behind the stadium land, and I definitely know that one of those did not explode.....it is most probably still embedded in the bottom of the river.
Another one fell and didn't explode where there is now a rowing cub and an International Youth Hostel.
Several more fell and the last one in the stick blew up two houses a couple of streets from my house, where there is now a very odd looking 1980's style house between the old Victorian houses on either side.

I didn't find it worthwhile to tell the local authorities about the possible UXB's on the new stadium site and the river next door......not my place and they know better than me..............

Cheers
Mick
