: Karen,
:
: I've just had a look at the photos you uploaded of the rec
: overed parts.
:
: I own a T-6, which was constructed by the same manufacture
: r as the P-51. I think that the tag you have is from a sub
: -assembly, rather than the main data plate. Control surfac
: es (flaps, ailerons, elevators, and the rudder) for instan
: ce, have data tags indicating the basic part number and pa
: rt configuration.
:
: Does anyone have a copy of the P-51B IPB (Illustrated Part
: s Breakdown) handy? This may allow you to identify what pa
: rt this tag came from (part number 102-14034-1; you have t
: he plaque in hand, but it looked like 14034 to me, not 140
: 54). A dash one (-1) normally indicates a left hand (or a
: non-handed part), while a dash two (-2) indicates a right
: hand part. The left aileron would be a -1, the right ailer
: on would be a -2 for instance. Each manufacturer used a un
: ique part numbering scheme, but some elements are consiste
: nt from manufacturer to manufacturer in the US.

Hi Karen and Brandon,

The piece of metal appears to be cut from a larger piece which would most likely be the upper intermediate wing skin or the large skin panel on the upper side of the wing from the front spar to the rear spar and from the wing center rib out to the outboard fuel cell bay rib. It would be the same or the oppsoite side of the bigger section you have with the hole for the fuel filler cap in it. If you were to check the thickness of it,it should measure .100" thick. (Providing that my hypothesis is correct!)

Hope this helps a little!
Glenn
