Sadly, no, there was not enough of the center fuselage left, or it was removed in 1947.

According to eyewitness accounts, the plane slowly lost altitude, and slammed into the lake. We have debated whether it was the impact, or the cold water hitting the radiator, and the engine which caused the plane to disintegrate. After 57 years, the impact crater is still there. Deans body was recovered with his parachute deployed, and covering his body, but he had at no time tried to eject. The force of the crash caused the parachute to open. Not to sound to morbid, but although he suffered an apparent broken leg, his body was viewable. There was an extensive amount of fire on the water, and although I am not certain I believe the tip of the propeller, I have still bears the soot from the smoke.

Dean was an instructor at Bartow AAF, near Clermont, FL. The crash occured during the 2nd lap of a routine flight, and he was in a 5 plane formation. The Air Force speculated, but never determined a cause. Personally, I believe it must have been some type of mechanical failure, or sabotage, but I am told this not likely. Sadly, no one will ever know for certain. I would love to hear other plausible causes, although it is all speculation, I would love to know what others think could have happened. Thank you.
