Catalinas in the Solomons

6yrs ago I was in the Gizo Hotel, Solomon Islands.
I local chap told me a story of 3 Catalinas, sunk on a freshwater lake, in the Solomon highlands. Apparently to stop the Japanese aquiring them as the stormed south.
I have tried a little research and a while back was told that the said acft may in fact have been in PNG?
If anyone can assist it would be greatly appreciated.
