Tom,
The P-38 is being restored to static condition, although I have heard that they are possibly now planning to go as far as to actually run the engines. The airframe was very well preserved, and could indeed be restored to fly one day. Apparently, all work is being done in a manner which ensures that a future airworthy rebuild will remain possible. Talking to Bob Jarrett (who founded the collection) just recently, he mentioned that they have (or are about to) start work on the spars. She will be a lovely plane when finished!
