Steve,
for me a web site, no matter what information it contains, can never replace a printed journal.
You mentioned Warbirds Worldwide, the articles in it couldn?t possibly be replaced by scrolling a web page. They could be printed for convinient reading in your arm chair and then what, punch holes and file it in a sorry looking binder?
It was good thinking, however, to convert the Network to web format since the printed WW was quarterly which is too seldom for the N.
The balance, as You pointed out, of what is printed and what is "webbed" is essential and the mags can control that but, what they can?t control is advertisers and sponsors. For those easy access is vital and advertising through a homepage (their own) is probably the best and most cost effective option today and advertising in the printed mag is more of sponsoring nature.
In retrospect WW was too cheap for it?s quality and contents. Here is another balancing action, how many of us would accept higher subscription rates to maintain WW as it was and how many of us would say no thanks if quality of print and contents was lowered to maintain the current subscription rates?
Concerning WW, what I?ve pondered is how much of total revenue came from subscriptions and advertising/sponsors respectively? How many subscriptions were payed and how many more would be required to rid us of the adds?
Paul, can You give me/us a hint?!
Regards,
Christer
