Actually, it isn't as far from the truth as you'd think. John Marlin built his Mustang from a lot of parts that weren't good enough to be used on other spit-shined restorations or racers. In the end, he got an airworthy airplane, but not as nice as some. Instead of NOS parts, he even had the engine pieced together from the used parts of others.

As for what even he didn't want to use, most of that gets given or thrown away- or sold on eBay.

Anyone want to make an offer on my old T-6 Vertical Stabilizer skins? I'll give you a heck of a deal! Just pay for packing and shipping...
