Subject:??????????? HALIFAX BOMBER DEDICATION - 12TH MAY
?
On the evening of Wednesday 12th May, at 7:00pm, the Yorkshire Air Museum will proudly unveil and Dedicate the unique rebuilt Halifax Bomber following the completion of the second phase of the rebuild project. The aircraft was first 'rolled out' for public viewing in 1996 when it was externally complete. After much more work, the Halifax is now fitted with all crew positions and other parts have been re-engineered for greater authenticity.
?
Repainted to incorporate French markings, the Halifax will take pride of place in the centre of the museum's Canadian Memorial Hangar for the Dedication Service, in which all Halifax aircrew of the many nationalities that operated these aircraft will be honoured. The event coincides with the 60th Anniversary of the formation of the two French Squadrons, which made RAF Elvington unique amongst the airbases of Bomber Command, and also effectively launches the museum's two-year 'Sixty Years On' events programme.
?
In addition to invited guests and Squadron representatives, the showcase evening is open to the public, with tickets, priced at ?4.50 including a light buffet, now available. The Halifax will be unveiled with accompanying sound, light and slide show in spectacular fashion and provides an ideal photographic opportunity and a poignant reminder of the service and sacrifice of so many in the cause of freedom.
