The R2600's were "aftermarket" add ons to give better performance as Air Tankers.To eliminate the need for extensive engineering and test flying (not a strong point in the Tanker Business)the engines were "derated" by painting red lines on the manifold pressure gages to give the same horsepower output as the original R1830's.The extra H.P. was there if REALLY needed.It is however an ugly mod using B-25 Q.E.C.'s with tacked on DC-3 oil coolers that take forever to warm up the oil.Hawkins and Powers could give you detailed info,I'm sure.
