For those who are interested-
The warbird market continues to move along with a few bumps in the road. Sept.11 and the general state of the economy here in he US have slowed sales for 2001. As in previous times when the economy slows or energy prices spike, the price of Warbirds tends to flatten out. Over the past 25 years that I have been involved in times like these we see a decrease in the turnover rate. When things return to closer to normal there tends to be a pent up demand and we get a bit a flurry of activity. The Warbird Demil bill has put a few people on hold. We have several deals pending the outcome of that. All indications are that it will be taken out of the bill in the next few days.
Comments on various areas-
T-6- good activity- a bit short on inventory
T-28- activty has picked up from 2000- prices stable now down a bit from the peak in 1998 area, there are some very good T-28's buys right now. A number of L-39 buyers put their T-28's aircraft on the market a few years ago and the market was oversupplied at that point- it is closer to normal now.
P-51's- About normal rate of turn- We hve 2 deals pending right now. Several others have been sold in 2001. The McCann aircraft at $895,000 is very good buy. It is one of the few stock orignal aircraft out there. As Paul indicated it has had the same owner since 1974 and has been well taken care of. A very nice aircraft for someone not looking for a show plane but solid bird to have some fun with.
Jets- We think prices have peaked and will need to come down a bit. There continue to be aircraft coming on to the market from overseas.
Bombers- Always a fairly slow area. some nice buys right now.
T-34- some activity but prices down with the spar AD concern.
Hope that the above information is helpful
