I imagine that the 'Blended' rods to which you refer have all sharp residual edges from the forging process relieved or removed to prevent stress risers or concentrations. They may also be polished and balanced too. More likely to be used on hign spec. race tuned engines, though:
Also occasionally turning up fitted to 1.0 Lt 550 HP 4 Cyl, Turbo wizz banged Ford Fiestas being driven by 17 year olds, possibly wearing ball caps and usually with a collapsed driver seat. Forcing the driver to occupy an uncomfortable driving position whereby his head ends up cranked over to the centre of the vehicle in line with the furry dice/xmas tree airfreshener suspended from the LED iluminated rear view mirror. Obviouslly with all this extra power under the bonnet of the late Granny Smith's now mean machine, an exhaust/muffler tail pipe with a diameter of no less that 3' is required to facilitate correct gas flow.
