And mine, too. Much as these "if-only" photos can be rather wrenching to look at! Every time I see a shot of an abandoned Liberator I think of YAM and how dearly they would love to have one at Willow Run.
Nice to know the 163 in your dad's pix has survived, though. I ran across (apparently) a similar situation last fall, finding a shot in an antique market, clearly taken in Canada, of what appears to be the Stuka now in Chicago.
Re 163s, I have a crazy idea. Use the windows behind the canopy as fold-open air intakes; install a Microturbo where the Walter rocket once went; and work up a retractable gear that, when extended, resembles the jettisonable dolly. Do the airframe in composites...presto, a "Luftwaffe fighter" to bounce BD-5Js with! ;-)
