half life, geiger counters and the fact that radiation atoms have trouble moving through some metal.. e.g lead... and it all having to do with the size of them..
And frightenly.. We had a lot of radio active stuff at School when I was a kid.. Locked away in a special cupboard with a radiation symbol on it this would give security services a headache now.. aka dirty bomb like) the only trouble was the School couldn't get rid of it. Catch 22. They really shouldn't have had it anymore, but they couldn't find anyone to accept it/dispose of it safely.
Result limbo and it stayed where it was..
So once when the teachers head was turned we got it all out of the cupboard, piled it all together and the geiger counter went absolutely CRAZY.. .. And we never protected anything including the eh hemmmm....... Probably had my recommended annual dose in about 5 mins....
Ahh those rose tinted glasses of youth
