The most important thing, as others have alluded to, is that a person has to decide that they WANT to own a warbird, and will make other decisions based on that constant. Such as: smaller house, no expensive new cars, less expensive vactions, etc etc. Same thing as learning to fly in the first place, you have to have the drive and passion. I know plenty of folks who aren't rich (including meself) and have cut costs in otehr areas of their life to afford a warbird. It can be done on a reasonable income (well, maybe not a P-51, but certainly up to a T6). Also, being a rated A&P helps a LOT, as does having a friend who is also old aircraft competent.
