Dave,

Yep, that's us. Pity that it was reported in FlyPast but they never asked us what our plans were. Now everyone thinks that there is a complete aircraft lying to be lifted. The truth is different however.

In 1998 we recovered a complete Merlin 28 with propeller from that aircraft. It was identified as Lancaster ED603 from 83 squadron. In august 2002 we went back to further investigate it and recovered a lot of cockpit items including the complete control column (a photo of which was put on webshots by Paul M) and the blind flying panel. The centre section of the fuselage with wings is complete and lying upside down with bombracks all in place. Because of the costs, it is not feasable to recover it.

There is no interest in recovering a Lancaster in the UK so why recover one in Holland where there is even less interest apart from the really serious enthusiast (I would like to recover it though but it just is too expensive, and where are we going to display it?). We hope to be going there again in the near future to further investigate the wreck because there are three crewmembers still unaccounted for. But with three new locations to investigate this summer there is hope.

Cheers

Cees
