A couple of years ago a friend of mine out in California sent me one of those 20-question e-mail surveys that people send around to friends. One of the questions was about who I'd most like to meet. I put down Jimmy Doolittle. She sent me a note back and said that she actually DID meet Jimmy Doolittle. After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I of course demanded to know the story behind that.
She told me that she used to help her elderly neighbor with errands, driving him around, etc. One day, he asked her to drive him up to visit his old war buddy, "Jimmy". So, she ended up sitting in a room with these guys while they reminisced about old times. WOW. What I would've given to be there that day. Absolutely priceless.
Needless to say, Jimmy Doolittle still tops my list. BTW, I have a dog named "Doolittle" after him.
