I think the general public needs the glamourous and well known types. Even the slightest interest in historic military aviation means a person is likely to know a Mustang or Spitfire by sight. Personally I'll visit anyplace that has military aviation (though I am beginning to appreciate GA aircraft now). However, I would make a special trip to go see something neat. Rarety has little to do with it directly, it all depends on my tastes. I love A-26 Invaders and will go out of my way to see one. I like Hurricane's and have never seen one live, I'm hoping to visit Yagen's facility in the spring specifically to see his and his A-26. I think hard core enthusiasts (which I think applies to most if not all of us here) go for what we like but can appreciate almost any aircraft we can lay our eyes on.

P.S. If NASM ever restores the Ta 152 then I'm there as soon as I can book a flight.
