certainly people have built quarter scale merlins but I don't know whether they are available as a kit - always wondered if they sound like the real thing - does anybody know?

Slightly off text, but definitely available as a kit are the palm sized jet engines (or centrifugal compressor gas turbine engines) made by Wren technologies - 3 inch in diameter, weighs 1 lb and gives 6.25 lb thrust - see latest Air International for a picture - amazing!
