...actually the plane got "sprayed". From the bullet strikes it looks like the attact may have been made from 7 to 8 o'clock. The bullet strikes look like they started on the after port fuselage. The fuselage was "stitched" up the port side with the golden bullet entering the left side of the cowl. It appears the spray pattern then passed over the cowl and likely hit the propeller while it was in it's arc on the starboard side. I was given a tour around the plane where it is parked at the museum, and this is how it appears to me. There may have been article in Classic Wings at some point, so maybe Kiwi Dave and confirm or correct this info. The 109F was restored with the bullets holes preserved, which is really cool as far as I am concerned.
