: Cees - during the war there was an intelligence unit based
: at Kenley that examined data plates to establish the area
: of manufacture of downed Luftwaffe machines. At the end o
: f the war a number of plates were buried -subsequently man
: y of these were recovered in the late 1980's and found the
: ir way into the hands of collectors.
Cees - Yes, David is absolutely right about that and if it was a Fw 190 data plate that you saw then that fits! I have several myself that I recovered from that location at Kenley; Ju 87, He 111, 109's etc etc including Me 323 and DB601, 603, 605 Jumo 211's etc etc. Sadly, not all of those types are buried there. A pity...!! I'd like to be able to say but there is a Halifax though...but that would be unkind really cees, wouldnt it? See you at Shoreham? Andy.
