Hi Rob--

A scheme that is unlikely ever to appear on its "proper" airframe type under the circumstances...but that would look superb on an RV4: the Cochran/Odom P-51C racer from the '49 NAR. "Beguine", overall very dark green, and in what looks like a metallic cream in photos, the name on the cowl, "sheet music" of the referenced song ("Begin The Beguine") down the sides, race #7 (in a style very like what "Strega" ultimately wore). You could, of course, change the song to whatever your favourite tune is and name it after that. The original racer, of course, crashed tragically into an occupied house during the '49 Thompson, so even after all these years another aircraft with that name might be controversial.

Another cool idea in the same vein: Cook Cleland's '46 NAR entry "Lucky Gallon", a red and cream FG-1A with prominent Goodyear sponsorship (and of course an RV4 does look a bit like an enlarged Goodyear Midget/F1 racer from the same period, so the Goodyear logo would still look logical).

Being an aviation artist I'm picturing these RV4s on the ever-sunlit ramp inside my head...and they're both looking just gorgeous!

Cheers

S.
