: I'd do a down and dirty, realistic account of VF-17 "Jolly
: Rogers" squadron during WWII.
:
: No Holloywood paint schemes, no "Memphis Belle" cleanlines
: s about the pilots. A bonafide detailed study of the men
: and the hellish jobs they performed from their little isla
: nd paradise in the South Pacific.
:
: It would be very interesting to see someone in Hollywood p
: roduce this movie as more of a drama/documentary with extr
: eme detail given to the documented weathering of each majo
: r plane (Kepford, Blackburn, etc) and extreme detail given
: to the surrounding environment. It would be the antethes
: is of the "Blacksheep Squadron" production which was admit
: tedly a glossed over, limited budget spoof.
:
: I'd like ot see the movie come off the screen like Saving
: Private Ryan, or an episode of NYPD Blue :) Very gritty a
: nd with the camera playing almost an anonymous role amongs
: t the actors.
:
: You couldn't film this thing in the SoPac, so you'd have t
: o hire seven or eight FG-1D's and relocate them to somewhe
: re like the south Mexican coast for filming. Somewhere wi
: th a very believable tropic environment, but a place where
: the hired warbirds could actually be flown over land to t
: he set for safety & financial reasons.
:
: It would be an excellent opportunity to really play upon t
: he plight of these pilots who lived under fairly horrible
: conditions far from home and civilization, all the time ha
: ving to deal with the loss of fellow friends & pilots and
: the (then) questionable outcome of the war during the earl
: y years.
:
: In the end, I would want the movie to be reflected upon as
: very much a historical documentary moreso than a summer b
: lockbuster. It would have to be at the very top of the Hi
: story Channel's "History vs. Hollywood" list :)

Hi Rob

Thanks for your comments - I agree with your vision.

Just an aside. I think a movie could be easily made here in Australia about any SE Pacific war incident - Thin Red Line was made here ( near Cairns in Queensland) in the recent past and it wouldn't take much to assemble suitable aircraft and cast - Queensland and Australia has quite a large film industry ( last 3 Star wars movies, All the matrix Movies etc have been filmed and produced here so there is no problem making it happen - we just need some interest and a good plot!!1
