'Malta story' was actually filmed in Malta in 1954. At least four Spitfires were used, low back Mk XVI's with one repainted as a PR aircraft. Under freeze frame advance, the aircraft that were blown up were actually pieces of Seafire XVII and Faiey Firefly.
I have a few stills but anybody with any material on this film please shout.
