Rudolf Weiprecht's FW-190 recovered in 2003?

Hi all,

I was recently given a copy of an article published in a French newspaper and relating the potentiel recovery of this FW-190.

On July 4 1943, Lieutnant Rudolf Weiprecht, from Lutwaffe's 2/10 Richthoffen Gruppe, took off from an airfield located in Vannes-Meucon, France. His target was a group of B-17 from the 8th Air Force on their way to the airfield of Chateau-Bougon.

It will be the last mission of this german pilot only aged 20. During the encounter with the B-17s. his aircraft is shot down by the american bombers and ditched in the lake of Grand-Lieu about 20 kms south-west from Nantes, Brittany.

Plans were made in 2003 to potentially recover this a/c as well as Rudolf's remains.

Does anybody know about this recovery project and its outcome? Also, more info on this particular a/c and pilot would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all in advance and my very best wishes for 2004!

Jacques.
