For the full Geneseo experience, you need to stay in the dorms as the only other places are a rather forlorn Days Inn, and a few more hotels 10 some odd miles away.

The dorms are pretty basic, but are the closest place to the field and all the pilots and flight crews stay there... its tradition. Being so close too, it makes it easy to bum a ride with the likes of myself and Eric who are always some of the first to arrive at the field at sunrise... nothing more amazing than the morning dew and fog lifting over a grass field full of warbirds and the sun lighting it all up... that and you are usually the ONLY one there that early.

I got some amazing shots of a deep red Staggerwing at dawn with a rainbow stretching over the ragged clouds on the horizon... amazing stuff!

Geneseo... it's almost a religious experience... all about the comraderie and the elemental love we have for warbirds.

PS: The dawn patrol at Galesburg comes close though... 70 Stearmans running up before the sun comes up and all you hear are 220 Continentals and all you see are shadows lit by the occasional turn of the airport beacon and the cobalt-blue flames trickling out of the exhaust stacks.
