Well, as for running it

I'd rather see it running on a display stand than used in tractor pulling. (Preferrably with me standing a few feet away with my fingers in my ears. :-P ) I'm sure the V-12 tractor is fun to drive, but the stresses put on those engines in that activity as well as boat racing pretty much ruins them for aircraft use (especially bad at a time when more P-40s are being resurrected.) If the engine has already been stressed, then have fun with it as long as it'll run. And even though the V-3420 probably will never be flown in an aircraft, the chance for a catastrophic failure under those loads is there and it would be distined for the scrap pile after that. I'm under the impression that many of the tractor pullers don't appreciate the value and rarity of those engines and I'd welcome a time when they are sanctioned out of the sport--at least until they can be recreated from new parts.

: We got it from Wally Fisk when we aquired the N3N, F-86, H

: The V-3420 is a pretty complete engine and I don't think i
: t would be too hard to get it running.

: I would love to see it on a pulling tractor. As much fun
: as the V-12 version is to drive, the V-24 must be a blast.
: We also have five Avon jet engines. We've considered ma
: king a jet tractor out of one of them.
