Anyway, it was designed by de Monge to Bugatti's specifications, so who know's how French or Italian it really is ?
But the Italians designed some real crap in their time as well, as everyone did, but I agree the French do not appear to have the flair for this kind of thing.......apart from maybe the Arsenal VG33 series, I've always liked that one, but it is not a patch on the later Italian fighters like the Reggiane Re 2005 Sagittario/2006 ,Macchi C.202 Folgore/205 Veltro/205N Orione or Fiat G.55 Centauro/G.56.......just beautiful.
Incidentally, has anyone ever noticed how Italian WWII fighters all looked pretty much the same, the radials were all similar, and then the inlines the same......more or less ?
Was there a "Designers Book Of How To Design An Italian Fighter Plane Depending On Whether You Have A Radial Or Inline Piston Engine" ?
