ME !....back-door someone's computer...never, even if I knew how to !
No I thought of it all myself when I was a kid while playing around with paper aeroplanes.....does it make sense to you ?
I well remember being fascinated how you could make them keep rolling until they hit the ground, simply by bending one wing up and one wing down......and my kids thought I was dead clever being able to do that......! LOL
Do you think it has "possibilities"...if the bugs could be ironed out?
The way you describe it working/flying is exactly how I imagined it.....are you back-dooring my mind !? ;-)
Considering instability, aren't all the best high-powered aircraft fairly unstable anyway.....up to an "acceptable" point ?
But presumably computer assistance could sort things out a bit....just like it does for the F16 etc ?
Would making it very long and thin, compared to it's wingspan, actually about 2-1 ratio, make it more or less stable ?
The way I thought of the wing spar structure, is that it would have a circular centre section spar, with the three main spars radiating out from that, like a 3 pointed star in effect.....preferably built/moulded in one continuous structure to avoid joints.
The rear engine would then be bolted to the circular spar section......more or less.
The main structure, frames, ribs, spar, etc would be kevlar (?)composites.....with the skinning being glass-fibre maybe.....to make it as light, smooth and strong as possible.
I assume you know what kind of wing/fin planform I propose seeing as we already have a name for it....."The Dart"?
It would be similar in shape to Concorde or Vulcan.
In fact the whole thing would look very similar to Concorde, but much smaller of course, wings and fin very similar in size, shape and relative thickness, fuel carried in the fuselage behind the pilot in the nose and in front of the engine, and a rear pusher R4360 with contra-props.
But I have no idea how to sort the aerofoil shape.
Normally a wing is flatter on the bottom than on the top, to put it simply..........but if all three planes are used as wings and the fin, depending on whether it is banking or flying straight and level........what kind of aerofoil should be used ?
Can the wings/fin be built with the same shape on both top and bottom surfaces ?
Thinking about the pilot position again.....if the pilot lay down in a prone position in an all-round fully glazed nose, on his stomach, would it work any better.....for the pilot at least....G-Force wise as well?
Or would a position similar to a Formula One racing driver, laying virtually on his back, be better ?
Cheers Christer...getting a bit complicated isn't it !?
