I think the big problem is these protesters don't take into account perspectives of the period. In 1945 the A-Bomb was just a big bomb to the public and the majority of the military. The radiation hazards weren't well known or understood by the general populace. There wasn't 50+ years of history that developed a horror for "Nukes".

However, regardless of that the use of the atomic weapons were justified considering the criteria of the era. Milions of Japanese civilians would have died in a conventional invasion of Japan.

If we hadn't completely destroyed the German and Japanese governments then more than likely an Iraq type situation would have occured and we would have had a nasty nuclear war in the 60's.

Protesters try to place modern day values and sensibilities on historical events and it just doesn't work. My opinion is that most protestors do it because they have nothing fulfilling in there lives and are trying desperately to grasp for anything that makes them feel better about there sad little lives.

Just my opinion.
