FROM Dick Phillips

I had intended to attend the Grand Opening of the Udvar-Hazy Center next monday the 15th, but opted instead to attend the special Veterens Day preview last tuesday the
9th. While not a WW2, at least I am a bonified "Cold War" veteren. It was a good decision, as the crowd was smaller than the first open day and what they expect on the 15th.
The place is "fantastic". If you liked the NASM display on the Mall in Washington, you will really love this place.
I went as a member of the press for this event, and they could not have treated us any better. I took several shots of the hanging Corsair, from the exact spot that John Trevolta is standing in the other posting, and have my own photos of Paul Tibbetts in front of the Enola Gay. Let me just say that even with the Concorde, Boeing 307, Boeing 367-80, B-29 and SR-71 sitting on the floor, the place is so big that they are not overwhelming. Photo opportunities are very good. The planes are spaced well for good photos and there are 2nd and 3rd floor walkways that allow excellent views of almost everything.
