Dan, and Greg,

No, Mike did not give me a projected completion date yet, but from the look of things, I think it would be safe to say that the USAF museum bird will still be in Minnesota for a while. Mike is not just making this thing "look good" externally for a static display, it is being restored to a VERY high standard as per the museum's directions. Dan, whenever you can spare some time, I'll take you over there to meet "Mr. Helldiver".

Gregory, there are five Helldivers that are represented in total, but in the end, there will only be four aircraft, as the one that crashed in the canyon in Utah will have donated itself to the cause of the other four. I do not have serial numbers in front of me right now, but I will get back to you tomorrow if somebody doesn't beat me to it. The other four consist of three airframes brought up from the bottom of Lake Washington, (deposited there courtesy of the U.S. Navy, a long story in itself), and one airframe that Mike rescued from a scrap heap in Hawaii. All of these are well documented in the latest volume of The Warbirds Directory, (volume four). Stay tuned, and if someone doesn't come up with the I.D.'s on these birds, I will post them tomorrow.

I will be happy to send a photo or two of the USAFM bird to anybody that wants one, just drop me a line.

Have a GREAT day!

Steve :o)
