Tony and me have talked about this several times before, and we are of the opinion that nothing else will come out of Russia easily while it is in the hands of "ordinary" people and crooks.

If someone seriously wants to get stuff out then they are going to have to do some sort of deal with the Russian Government, an idea I put forward once before that others then P****d on, whereby the Gov gets something very nice out of it, because at the end of the day all those wrecks are really the Government's property, and I'm quite sure they really don't like rich greedy westerners winding up their people with suitcases full of cash, it leads to all sorts of very nasty crime in the end.....but then greedy westerners are never going to be interested in giving something back........that is after all not how most of them became rich in the first place by giving stuff away, or giving a fair price for something.
And frankly I would much rather have the Russian police, the military and KGB helping me than an "ordinary" citizen.....the gov have more and bigger guns for a start.....

You're right of course that not all Russians are like that, it is really only possible to generalise.
Tony has more experience of dealing with B******S than me, at least in this biz anyway.....I have plenty of experience with B******S in other matters, but I have learnt very very fast that not all western aviation enthusiasts/restorers/warbird owners/writers/historians have mine or our best interests at heart.....not by a long way.

These people seem to be well known by certain other people in the biz, some of whom populate this forum (mostly the lurkers), but they are also well protected by others who are ready to jump on anyone who gets too near the truth.

I presume the Safanovo curator could take the crooks to court.....if he wanted to end up buried in a shallow grave in the forest with the back of his head blown off..........?

This biz is just the same as any old biz......where there's potentially big money to be made, then all the C***S come crawling out of the woodwork to chew off their chunk of your ass..........

And there's the general media thinking we are all just a bunch of naive, sad, lonely, fat old Plane Spotters in annoraks.........if only they really knew........
