: : : IIRC there was also a P-51K Mustang..
: : That would be N69X, which I have seen referred to vario
: us
: : ly as a P-51K and a P-51D
: The ship was listed as a P-51K in a book entitled 'Museum
: and Display Aircraft of the United States'

...the Mustang in question is in the list as a P-51D:
S/N: 44-74836 USAAF
History: P-51D-30-NA 44-74836 USAAF, Mk IV 9260 RCAF TOS (1951/1/10), SOS (1956/12/4), N3991A, N69X (by 1963)
Notes: Often quoted as a P-51K, but by the Ids here is a D model. In RCAF service it served with 420 Squadron. Walt got it from a junkyard after it had met with some sort of accident. Walt apparently only had it a few years before it passed to Brian O'Farrell at Hialeah, Florida.

If the main difference between the D and the K is the prop, is there any photo evidence showing the prop? Baugher lists this one as a D, and I don't believe the RCAF operated any K models (this is a former RCAF machine).

So is the concensus that this is a D model? Or is there any supporting documenation anywhere that indicates that we may actually be talking about two P-51s? If two B-25s can become three... :-)

Mike
