This was a great question, because thinking about it crystalized for me, how many great people there are in this hobby. I have had so many memorable visits, many to the same museums you describe and with similar results. I am always excited to view a new collection and it is so much better when there are enthusiastic people to share it with you. Highlights for me have been Tom Reilly's place; the Trenton Halifax people were incredibly welcoming and so polite with my wife that she wants to go back and she isn't that big on airplanes! The Planes of Fame airshows are great every time. If I had to pick one, however, it would be the Shuttleworth evening airshow we attended back in 1995. Such a beautiful place, in the sunset, with old aeroplanes flying and a baked potato vendor - like a whole truck devoted to potatos! Then, seeing a Spitfire and a Gladiator, among others, doing a sunset airshow. Truly sublime.

I have never had a truly bad experience, but I used to find visiting the Yanks Air Museum a trifle intimidating. Anyone who knew Stan knows why. On the other hand, he was always open the day after Thanksgiving, and it became a family tradition to go there each year. We went this year and, alas, it was closed.
