The most amazing picture of a postwar dump I have ever seen is of one on Biak, in the Feb. 9, 1948 issue of LIFE. It was taken two and a half years after the war, according to the caption, "JUNGLE JUNK YARD". Hundreds of planes, mainly A-20s, P-38s, P-61s and razorback P-47s. The jungle was starting to take them over.

Also, the March 1951 issue of National Geographic has an article and pictures of a family who sailed the area in 1949-50 I believe. They took a very good picture of many of the 1,000 B-24s rotting on Biak. Again, vines were starting to take over. They mention four Libs by name: Sioux City Sue, Eight Ball, Oklahima Rose, and Who Dat?

I have heard from various sources that many of these aircraft survived into 1960, before all were scrapped.
