I don't post much here, but really enjoy the topics.

I think one important thing is missing from this thread. When I take my kid out to an airshow and we walk around the warbirds, the entire point to me, is what and who they represent.

If it's a rebuilt Spit with more new metal then old, it little matters to me as I tell him about the pilots who flew Spitfires and fought the airwar in them. It represents a time and the people who flew them regardless of the age of the metal.

I'm a Spitfire XII fanatic. Should Peter Arnold ever get EN224 restored and in the air, It will be a Spit XII to me even though I know it's really only the firewall with the ID plate that really is from EN224 while the rest are bits and pieces from other Spits and Seafire XVs.

I guess the bottom line for me is if it's a new build Spitfire, built to the same specs, being pulled around by a Merlin or a Griffon, it will serve the purpose of preserving and retelling the history, which I think is what it is all about in the end.
