1st May 1942. First day this newly formed squadron was officially operational. The first Commanding Officer - S/L A L Winskill served from April to August 1942.
Interstingly a Texas Spitfire restoration, very shortly to fly, Mk IX MK959, was SK-M of 165 Sdn. I will be surprised if the owner, Raybourne Thompson, does not paint it in these former markings.
