Peter,

I've checked through the relevant Lw claims lists and there are no Flak unit claims for a Spitfire recorded on either 9/4/41 nor 9/4/42. The closest any flak claim comes to this date is one for a share in the destruction of a Blenheim on 4/7/41 with Uff.K.Nowak of the 9./JG 2.

However, in trying to link the abschuss marking on the gun with the photos of the aircraft it is perhaps best to remember that we are making these assumptions based on what the photos show. As the photos indicate, it would appear that this was the first victory for the crew and if correct, then they would have ensured that their claim was formally recorded yet it does not appear on the relevant claims lists.

However, thus far all we have posted are only assumptions based on the available information although IMHO, Rowden does seem a reasonably likely candidate as the victim.

Now, if only someone could come up with a copy of the claim by F?z? for this day and the witnessing pilot report......

Dave
