: There is another "book" that covers the CAF serials (1968
: forward), but I forget the title and author.

Mike is probably referring to "The Aircraft of the Canadian Armed Forces," by Jeff Rankin-Lowe and Andy Cline. It was published in 1995. Jeff is working on a second edition; he can be contacted through the "TAotCAF" Yahoo group -- see link below.

Another source of CAF serials is a British book, "Military Aircraft Serials of North America." As the name suggests, it covers the US services as well. Andy Cline prepares the Canadian section. The latest edition was published in 2003. (I know Aviation World in Toronto carries it, because Andy works there! www.aviationworld.net)

As to Andrew's original question, the CC-130Es are still in service. They have an average of 40,000 flight hours, or nearly twice as many as any other C-130s. Most of the E's are pooled among 424, 426, 429, and 436 Sqns at 8 Wing Trenton. Two E's might still be assigned to 413 Sqn at Greenwood, NS for SAR. All the standard length C-130Hs are assigned to 435 Sqn at Winnipeg. The two stretched aircraft are with 8 Wing.
