I was asking which machine it was that was heading over the pond to the Fighter Collection. I confirmed from the postings it is this one...

History: P-38L-5-LO 44-27231 USAAF, converted F-5G, NX79123 (circa 1946/7), flow as Bendix racer #95, N79123 (circa 1966), to Yesterdays Air Force/David Tallichet (1977/3), restored (circa 1984), to Military Aircraft Restoration Corp./David Tallichet (1987/10), restoration completed with a fighter nose, first post-restoration flight (1995/11), loaned to March Field Mustum (1998-2001), to Flying Heritage Collection/Paul Allen (2002), to The Fighter Collection (2003)

...was once identified as 44-26996 and c/n 422-8000. I can remember seening the 422-8000 in the FAA register. Is it being suggested that this airframe was recovered from PNG? None of what I have been able to dig up indicates this. I am really just curious as to odd ID. Can anyone shed any light?
